Tavira - the Location

Known as the 'Venice of the Algarve', Tavira is generally considered to be the region's most beautiful town. Set foot in the place and you'll instantly know why! Just a mile from the coast, Tavira lies on the river Gilao, and is renowned for its unique architecture - blending Roman, Moorish and traditional Portuguese style. The town in fact dates back to around 2000BC.

I'm sure you'll love this place as much as I do. Enjoy dining in one of the many traditional restaurants and cafes (it took me ages to choose which one!) on the quayside, just a stone's throw from one of the city's main squares. Their speciality? Locally caught seafood. Oh yes, and superb Portuguese wine - don't remind me!

I've spent countless hours visiting so many of the town's 37 historic churches, going to off-beat cafes in quiet, cobbled sun-drenched side streets, and spending money in the many shops, which sell superb locally made goods you won't see anywhere else. Things are really affordable here - hotels and restaurants, in fact just about everything tends to be around 35-40% cheaper than the UK.

If you've still spent too much, you can always visit the museums and art galleries, and chat with the locals (a surprising number speak some English!) or visit the fine art deco cinema. If you are feeling energetic, there's superb golf courses, and if you're a water sports fan you're in heaven.

Tavira is a mere 35kms from Faro airport, with flights daily from many UK and European locations. Road links are excellent too and if you don't want to drive there's a good bus network throughout the Algarve.

No wonder Condé Nast Traveller has recommended Tavira, summing up (May 2011) the town in one word - 'delightful.' I agree, but you need to visit this beautiful, peaceful place and fascinating place for yourself.

The Estate

This is a charming country estate in the midst of ancient trees and beautiful gardens. These lovely apartments are only a ten minute walk (or less!) from the historic centre of Tavira, known for its art, culture and architecture.

All apartments have their own balcony or terrace. The newly furnished units all look on to the swimming pool. They are in impeccable condition and fitted with top brand kitchen and bathroom.

The resort offers excellent facilities including two adult and two children's swimming pools, a play area, tennis court, restaurant, bar, laundry, tennis courts, gym and mini-market.

These apartments have been favourites amongst my buyers because of: the fantastic location; they're fully managed; their proximity to the airport and town centre - not forgetting the fact investors get four weeks' free use of their property. And of course, people love Tavira!
